The #1 Essential – The Loo, The John, The Facilities, The Porcelain God …

When we saw this place the bathroom had a wooden toilet seat. Lovely, to say the least. At least I could clean that thoroughly and feel okay using it.

Here’s a picture of the toilet when we viewed the place before purchase.

Then we came for final inspection, they had for some unknown reason, changed the whole toilet. It now had a special toilet seat with the mushy top. Really, I don’t know what to call it. I feel like although they are plastic, I can’t really clean that thoroughly and feel like nothing has seeped through the million of pores into the foam.

The toilet seat in question

Am I neurotic? Am I the only one that thinks these toilet seats are gross? It obviously wasn’t a new seat.

We did sleep over on an air mattress our first night after inspection night, the night we officially owned the house but there was a lot of toilet seat hovering happening right then. So promptly we went to find a new seat. We even purchased it before taking our first load of items to the new house.

This was a very simple quick fix at our house. Wrong … we bought the wrong one at first. We bought the round and it was an elongated seat because we didn’t check and had no clue. Back we went and switched to the right one. They were on sale both times too; YAY!

The instructions of how to put them on are given in a pamphlet with the purchase. Really it’s just a put the plastic screws into the holes and tighten the nuts below.

New toilet seat. Ahhhhh!

We ended up buying the self closing lid. I do find the toilet seat is put down more often now. Unfortunately though John has pretty much slammed other people’s toilets lid down from force of habit as our lid you can push and it just closes slowly, no need to ease it down. :S … I hope we don’t have to buy a new lid for anyone else.

Ps. This change of toilet at purchase, although lovely in that it is almost if not brand new, and dual flow, seemed fishy and yes, I believe the real reason has come to haunt us. More to come in the future.

Pps. Yes the bathroom originally had carpet … also gross.
